Help Needed! Starting a Business Online

Our society wants instant gratification with everything. The faster we go, the more we want it to move faster. Give us ‘quick’ or ‘instant’, and we want ‘ready-made’. Starting a business online is no exception.

Some ‘pre-fab’ things work well and there is a real benefit saving time and money buying something that is all put together for you. It depends on the context. For a business there are things that may be too complicated for most. That alone is a good reason to find tools that can give us a head-start such as the Internet’s infamous ‘Business in a Box’.

If learning a programming language was required, well we just wouldn’t or we would believe we couldn’t. Too far out (technical)? This would prevent us from having a website or starting a business online in many cases. At least it would be the case if we had to take a time out for a few years to learn the language and get some hands-on experience. This would be more likely if the business was to be technical. If you just want to market opportunities and products online you really don’t need that level of skill at all.

People are not necessarily lazy. More so, it is usually just that some people can relate to technical things and some don’t. There is nothing wrong with that. We are all different. It is just that we should know our limitations as well as we know our likes and dislikes. If you are building your own business this is the time to make it what you enjoy and could do well.

There are several resources we could use to accomplish what we need. There are web design companies to create a website and some web pages for us, but this can be expensive or cheesy looking. Don’t be fooled by ‘really free’ website built ads on TV that are laughable. They make that point “really free not funny free”. Yes, really free to build it.

However don’t forget to mention that they charge a maintenance fee each month (average $100 a month). This may include some basic marketing and content that might be the right thing for you if you can afford it and have little time to invest.

If you have few technical inclinations and no desire to cultivate the skills, we can go the almost free way. We could build a website on a blogging platform. All we need there is hosting and a domain name which really are very inexpensive. You want to do some research on hosting though, as far as reliability and security, as the host is really what keeps your website running and displayed online where potential customers can see it.

The blogging platforms usually have a number of free themes you can choose from. You may start to customize it for your purposes. (Note that not all themes can be changed so pick one that can be if that is what you want).

If you can’t even afford almost free, there is a blogging platform where you don’t even need a domain or host. The drawback is that the design options are limited, and you will have a sub-domain which is not as professional as a top-level domain. In fact it screams ‘I am a flat-broke newbie’. No big deal, everybody had to start somewhere, but it may turn a few ‘savvy’ individuals away.

Success Recipe

The recipe for success when building a home business is first finding one! We need to find the right ingredients and instructions. Obviously it’s pretty important to follow the directions to the best of your ability. Learn a few basics before you try to do things on your own. It is probably not the right time to do things your way if you have never built a business before.

When you have learned some of the basics and have applied them to see how they work, then you can get creative and do things your way so that you will stand out, etc. If you don’t have any experience in the field however, you may waste resources (time and money) doing it your way when you are only guessing. It wouldn’t take that much time or effort to just learn a few facts.

Find some important expert advice and at least consider that they may be able to show you something you don’t already know. It is great to be a ‘non-conformist’ and to be creative, but there should be some foundation to start from. It may also help you if you have information that includes a ‘track record’ (statistics).

Starting a home business is not really like for instance baking a cake. With cake, if you don’t follow the recipe as far as the quantity of ingredients or baking time, you might end up with a lopsided lump that may even be inedible. With cake there is a right way and a wrong way. You do have more leeway with a business start-up to be creative as long as you have some valid frame of reference.

Above all else, what you don’t want to do is to find reasons to procrastinate or to waste time ‘reinventing the wheel’. If things require more technical expertise than what you possess at this point, don’t worry too much. You can learn what are actually very simple instructions, usually as you go along. Basic technical information will also begin to make more sense to you if you want it to.

Things will look very different to you in the near future, with a little experience and information under your belt. You will be more able to navigate and much of the stress will subside. Remember you do not need a degree in computer science or to be a programmer to learn how to function with your own business – eventually. Unless you actually want to have a technical business, there is really not that much you will need to know that is technical. At the same time though, you shouldn’t run away from it. Learn all you can.

An important ingredient for just about anything we do is Mindset. It allows us to have the ability to start anything, or maintain and succeed with anything. The best Mindset you can have in the beginning or the end is an open-minded willingness to learn (humility). Some things you can do at start up, and others will take time and experience to master. Don’t get in a rush which may only discourage you.

Persistence is Required

If you want to have a professional, profitable home business, persistence is required. It rolls next to determination. Both require patience to prevail. None of them are just for when you start out, as you must always be building momentum over time.

Sometimes people who work hard when they first start out, expect direct, almost instant results. Unfortunately more often than not this is not at all realistic. If you really want to develop a successful business it is a process that involves time. People are used to receiving direct compensation (paycheck). However, when you are building your own business it is totally different from having a job.

Most sales-based businesses depend on earning income directly. Probably to some it appears without a paycheck they are working without pay! For a time you might be while ‘under construction’. That is why it is probably best not to quit your job until you have established a steady income from home.

Even people willing to work, sometimes haven’t got any patience with the process. The harder they work the less patience they have. Patience is a very necessary component of persistence! It is sad to see the ‘newbies’ who are trying too hard and they start to rush. Before long that whole recipe turns into chaos where they are just going around in circles. Then they start spinning their wheels, instead of building momentum over time.

They get burned out and get broke; they become skeptical and discouraged; all because the will not have patience. Of course in part this is because money may be going out of their pockets and none is returning YET. It’s just human nature to want to see results! However, there is no ‘magic sauce’ for achieving instant wealth without work.

All of the people that are making substantial money on the Internet got it by W-O-R-K-I-N-G. They have done their time. If you are persistent and patient long enough, and really engage in your home business, eventually you will achieve your goal of major profit. It can be done but there usually are no shortcuts for most of us, we must build momentum over time.

Viable Home Based Business.

When you decide to start a legitimate home based business naturally you want it to be profitable and also flexible. You need the flexibility for a few reasons. A home business should not be drudgery like a job; so that you can have ‘wiggle room’ to allow you to live in an atmosphere of relaxed freedom; and you will also be more available to your family rain or shine.

There are a few ‘niches’ you can choose to work from home and it might as well be something you are interested in, or has some other attraction, since it is your choice. You can sell products for companies online and produce a profit right from your home. The products can be ordered online with you receiving a percentage of the proceeds just for inexpensive advertising; or you can be responsible for shipping the ordered product to the recipient if you want to be totally independent (and keep the change).

Childcare is another legitimate home based business. This business can be conducted from your home. It is actually quite efficient if you have your own children – why not add a few more that pay? There may be required safety inspection and other legal matters to implement first. Your business can serve two purposes. One is to provide childcare for those who need it. The other purpose is to provide income to a home based business like yours.

Do you like to cook? Another legitimate home business that can thrive in today’s world is a catering business. Providing home cooked meals to working people can be very nice as you can choose how many meals you can handle in a day. Do as much as you can, no more no less if possible. The profits can be pretty good and they are saying in some towns it is actually cheaper to have a catered meal than to shop at the supermarket. (Not to mention all the work). This can be such a good thing for the family receiving the meals as they have more time to spend with each other and less stress.

A cleaning service can be profitable and it is one of the easiest services to sell. Just mention ‘I clean houses’ in a conversation and you will have people begging for either one-time archeological digs or weekly maintenance. Again this service is such a help to the busy professional, freeing up their time and creating an atmosphere of well-being.

Another service you can offer either alone or in tandem with one of the others is a laundry service. The laundry can be dropped off at your home, processed and picked up when the person gets off from work. This is another time saving necessity that is performed by the home worker for the busy professional who does not have the time to complete it. Improve your life with the extra money you will earn at the same time as helping someone else.

Internet Marketing – What is the Difference Between Selling and Promoting

How would your mood change if you were out just taking a leisurely walk. Someone gets in your face and rudely shoves a flyer or brochure at you, pushing their agenda. You can’t really pass them without knocking them down. They force you to see or listen to their sales pitch. Are you feeling receptive yet? Hardly. This sounds completely unpleasant and ‘pressure’ like this is never recommended. It does not encourage someone to cooperate with you and quite the opposite they may become ‘resistant’.

The other obviously totally obnoxious sales strategy is when you answer your phone and either a person or a robot starts shouting a long diatribe about whatever their agenda is – sales, charity, or survey. (who listens). They do not stop as they spill out their script. The only way to stop it is to either just hang up or you literally have to shout ‘Stop! Not interested’ after they ignore all your polite, ‘no thank you’s’. Have these folks put you in the mood to buy in this atmosphere? Closer to phone slamming time especially since more than likely you have gotten several ‘appeals’ of this nature several times every day.

On the other hand, Internet Marketing is very different from other more intrusive mediums for marketing and sales. It is still sales and marketing, but on a very different level. You have the ability to not listen or not read whatever it is without getting in an altercation. Professional Internet marketers actually use a strategy called ‘ethical, permission-based eMail marketing’. This is where you do not contact anyone unless they request it (“opt-in).

The difference between selling and promoting is selling is trying to convince someone they want or need something you have, whether or not they are interested. Promoting is sharing information and then allowing the prospect to make a decision. Approaching someone who has expressed an interest has people coming to you and not you chasing them down. See the different dynamic?

Internet Marketing strategy is to build trust and relationship, by for one thing giving away information for free. Then if the person wants to know more, they come to you because they trust you. They may even feel subliminally that they owe you the business if they are convinced they need or want what you are selling. They appreciate that you tried to help them without any obligation.

When people consider you a winner, they want to know more about what you are doing. It is not you pushing it to where you can cause them to resist just because you are exhausting them. Give them a chance to think even if it requires a call-back. If you insist it has to be right now, then it may be never. Try to conduct a friendly transaction. They say people are much more likely to do business with a friend or acquaintance than just someone out of the blue. Remember to create a friendly atmosphere of trust before you try to sell something.

Working From Home In More Ways Than One

People usually have more than one capacity that they are trying to fill. You may be a mother doing the important family tasks like housework and childcare more than likely as an unpaid job. You may realize things would be better if you had more money. You naturally think of some ways that you could start a home business at your kitchen table while the kids are taking their naps. Although you love your family you have to admit you are bored with your life and need some mental stimulation.

We do not have much choice but to do it this way, since unfortunately most childcare would eat up any profit we might make at a job. We know we could do much more than we are doing – not to mention more money is always a nice idea. Staying home to work is nowhere the same as having to leave the kids behind every day. While you understand and forgive yourself for leaving them, they really don’t know why you are never there.

If you are a mom who works outside the home that would be the number one priority, after the children’s care itself. It is difficult for mom to have two first priorities. It also becomes more time-consuming to add in commute time. It gets to seem like you wonder if it is all worth it to gain 15-minutes a day to spend with the kids.

When you factor in unpaid travel and commute time to and from the outside job, as well as the expenses to and from, and for childcare, etc., then you see that they are not making as much real ‘spendable’ cash (profit) at the end of the day. So when you are planning on ‘converting’ your day job and you analyze how much it would take to be able to do that, a fact very much on the ‘up’ side, is that you can keep all that money you have been spending to commute and have your children cared for. So right away everybody in the family is benefiting.

Your Dream Home Business – Make it Come True

Have you thought about starting your own business in the past? Is it when you become profoundly aware that you are sick of your routine? It might be when you want to buy something and realize you really can’t afford it right now; or maybe it is when your boss seems to look down his nose at you.

Unfortunately just dreaming will not do anything except make you feel worse when you wake up. Fantasies can’t become reality unless you make them happen by taking action. It is your individual preference as well as ability to determine how long it will take you to create and implement a realistic plan to start a business. Perfectly fine that by the time you actually do it, it may have changed several times. This can be a good thing so that you get the closest thing to your dream.

Be sure to find a business that has a market. It is great if you are creative and innovative, but for a thriving business you need to appeal to the masses. Unfortunately you may need to make your name with the status quo and then roll out the really unique things you may have in mind. Show them that you have ‘what everybody wants’ before you appeal to their more abstract tastes. it is the status quo that generates business for the most part – what ‘everybody’ wants. You can do both – eventually.

An affiliate program is a great way to ‘get your feet wet’ and without spending an arm and leg, find out if you like marketing and advertising. With a simple process there is really no maze where you must spend years in the learning curve.. Maybe this is ultimately not going to be the path you choose. However, you need to learn first, and the best way to do that and get some hands-on experience is the easiest, fastest and most inexpensive way. (the ‘business in a box’).

You may end up being satisfied with being a super-affiliate making lots of money and have lots of followers; or just a ways down the road you can take what you have learned and go a different way. At least you will know and not have to always wonder.

It is important that you know how things appear from the customer’s perspective. Becoming an affiliate yourself for a while will show you things you might not realize even if you are the most proficient engineer or programmer. You do want a ‘user-friendly’ business where average people can function and be able to use the tools and resources provided.

Life-Changing Connections

Connecting with customers is what keeps your business connected with success.  Instead of racing from one interaction to the next, when we focus on the person in our view and do something to make a difference, we make these contacts life-changing.  How so? By following the steps below, you’ll not only create these moments for your customers, but you’ll benefit from that connection, too. Let’s see what needs to be done.

Get Personal

Maybe you were told in your younger years to mind your own business.  That’s often polite, and with some people, it might be best to do so. When it’s one of your potential customers, though, you want to connect, you want to show interest, you want to make a difference.  Before you make your sales pitch, get to know the person. Find a shared connection you have. By initially discovering what you have in common, you’ll find more and more of those points of interest. Perhaps you’ll find out that you both went to the same high school.  Maybe you’ll realize that you have friends in common. Keep looking for a connection.

Get Creative

Use the right side of your brain and allow yourself to think of all sorts of ideas – even those that probably won’t work.  When you open the floodgates like that, eventually the right idea will come along. You’ll have more fun thinking – that’s for sure.  Unrestrained, pure thought flow – tap into your creative side. Make buying your service or product FUN for your customers to do. A local floral shop was having a holiday sale.  Customers chose a dum-dum lollipop and the bottom of the stick had a color which related to a certain percentage. Everyone was a winner – even the lowest discount was 15% – making it seem like such a bargain to buy that glittering necklace or that sunshiny daisy bouquet.

Get Positive

Too often life brings bad news our way.  When something happens suddenly, we feel sad and alone, distraught and overwhelmed.  When you learn that one of your customers is having a very blue moment, do something about it.  Something simple. Something caring. Send a card – a handwritten note – or an animated Ecard, a reminder that the person is not alone – that you are thinking of him or her.  If the person is local, a cup of coffee or tea can be of comfort. Let the person talk and respond with a gentle touch or a reassuring smile. Those moments make a such a difference to those in grief.

Get Ready

Make what is ordinary become extraordinary.  Get ready to celebrate! Ask customers for their birthdays – and on that day, send them a little something.  Use the tools we have at Online Sales Pro, and send them a quick celebratory email – maybe with a poem you’ve crafted for them or a link to a fun animated E-card.  If you’ve got much of a singing voice, turn it into a melodious telegram. When you go out on a line like that to celebrate with a customer, that’s something that is not soon forgotten!  Making a big deal about someone becomes a big deal to him or her.

Get Quiet

Another way people can feel connected to you is if you let them discover things on their own.  Instead of telling others everything you know, give the person a hint about how to discover something about your product or business.  Ask questions. Encourage customers to think of how they could benefit with a purchase. Don’t tell them what you know – find out what they think.  Guide them so that they can have their own aha! moments, instead of finding out about one of yours.

Connections can be made – and you can be part of life-changing moments.  By taking these steps to change the lives of others, your customers won’t be the only ones having life-changing moments – you will be, too.   By letting your customers know you care, you are making the most of that connection. Want to get connected? Here’s how. Come join Online Sales Pro (OSP) as the way to bridge the gaps between you and others, making those connections, creating your sales campaigns.

Home Business Building – How to Diversify as a Means to an End

There are many different ways to earn income from home online. Many people who have worked in the Internet marketing industry believe ‘Residual Income’ is the smartest strategy to use because for one thing it is based on the theory that it is wise that when you make a sale once that sale represents a monthly income going forward. With affiliate programs, when someone joins a program in your down-line you are paid a commission for the initial referral. Then for as long as they pay their monthly membership fee, you get a percentage of that fee as a commission. This is a primary example of what is called ‘residual income’.

There is also OTO or ‘One Time Only’ income where you would be selling a product or a service one-time. You can be creative with this and offer special deals for additional products *(and income) at the point of sale. For instance if you sold an electronic device like a smart phone and then at the end of the transaction (at the payment point) also had an offer for a related accessory like earphones.

Another reference to types of income you will see online is ‘Multiple Steams of Income’. This is where you have more than one source of income. This may be seen as a ‘portfolio’ of business opportunities. This is also a very smart concept to incorporate into your home business plan, because you are ‘hedging your bets’:(a) if one product is not doing well, another one might be doing great and will make up for any sparse income from product (a); and (b) some companies count on sales volume, so that while the commissions may be rather small, they assume you have volume that will make up for it.

For example, $5 is not much, but if you make 10 of those $5 sales, you have $50, which is a nice commission. If you want to get really excited extrapolate that 20 times for $100! That will tend to keep you motivated to work your head off to make a decent income you can live on eventually. Something very exciting about this way and it makes a perfect balance with the other more stable forms of income.

It can take some time before you have done sufficient advertising such that you begin to earn substantial income. It is very important for your mindset that you realize this is only normal. This can be hard, not just psychologically, but financially. You are spending money acquiring opportunities, and for advertising and marketing services, yet you are not seeing a return on your investment YET.

Smart again to structure your business in a way that you start with some programs that you can join for free or very inexpensively. You can even advertise using free and very inexpensive techniques. You can make a little money even at the same time you are building your home business online. Examples of possibly making decent money for free are programs like Clickbank.com and Amazon.com which are both free to join and earn commissions without much investment.

Building Components for an Online Business

The idea for the business would seem to be the most important thing to consider when you are creating a plan to start a business online. Ideas may include products or services to sell, and also the entire concept. The concept would be the look and feel (environment) etc. Your presentation is key as well – your website design and format, your advertising and marketing content is important in attracting people and keeping them interested.

It would be important to know if there is a market for what you plan to promote. It is very logical that it is more difficult if we choose the product and then try to find somebody that wants it. The ‘path of least resistance’ would be to do some research to learn what the market wants and then give it to them. Think about that. It is a whole different dynamic when they come to you for something they want, than if you are chasing them down to try to convince them.

Your motivation is important. Determine how badly you want to have a business and why. It probably should be more than ‘need money’. You should have a passion – (besides the money). Motivation may arise as a result of your dissatisfaction with where you find yourself. For instance you are not making as much money as you want or need; or maybe you are not doing something that you like to do.

There can be other negative factors associated with politics in our workplace environment. A huge motivation would be if you are about to lose your job, love it or hate it, or have already been terminated. You know you need to do something fast and as for a home business it can be either part or full-time. Realistically if you don’t have severance pay or unemployment insurance, you should probably focus first on replacing your full-time income.

Any of these things can motivate you to start building your own successful home business. If you put a lot of effort and time into developing your business, and are patient with the process, you are likely to eventually achieve your goals for success. Just don’t give up. One thing that must be part of your mindset is that you are not in a rush. You are realistically building a business from the ground up. There is no magic that will have money popping out of your computer in 2-days – or maybe even 2-months. That is why you have to be strong in your motivation to see it through. Otherwise why bother?
